Eastern Shore 10 years of my life. spent in one place. Drive 2 miles south and you’ll hit the Maryland-Virginia line. you know what they say about small towns. Everyone knows everything. That wasn’t true for us. More like everyone knows everyone. Friends worked at the Walmart we spent our free time. Teachers were people to form close bonds to. Subway workers knew our orders as soon as we walked through the door. It was a community. Filled with the same people who were there years prior. No one really ever comes or leaves, we’re stagnant, like the building that took 12 years to be put to use. The Eastern Shore means being close to water at all times. Rivers divide towns. Summers are spent at the beach, with the only question being which one? Both packed with tourist from the north to the south. It means eating dinner by Riverside Grill. Drinking wine while overlooking the water. The Eastern Shore also means no one is alone. Supporting each other is our speciality Volunteering to

Change is often temporary, but this one isn’t Separation and frustration Time became fluid, grounded only by exam dates Stress took a permanent residence in our lives Many decided to diet Losing 50 pounds the voice inside told me to die Yet I fought my way through I’m stronger than I was before who knew? Watching classmates through a computer screen I’m struggling to be seen Back to school and nothing seems to have changed The only thing different is the desks have been rearranged It’s taken the things I hold dear I can’t believe it’s already been a year The voice is back, I’ve relapsed The pressure seems like the world is just going to collapse Now that everything is all said and done I wait until my battle is won
